Why won't Windows detect my display?

[Microsoft Windows]

I changed it from duplicate to extended display and my monitor flashed and then one of my screens is no longer detected. win+ p doesn't work, win + I doesn't help. Display settings wont detect the second monitor. I checked and all connections on the motherboard are in order, its plugged in correctly, the monitor has power. nothing changed from when it was working 5 minutes ago.
