why there are multiple instances of same program running my task manager?

why there are multiple instances of same program running my task manager and the application wont even open it happend few days back with discord and for the whole day it wasnt opening i even tried restarting my laptop but nothing happend and it still wont open but next it seems to open alright and now it happening again with roblox can somebody explain me for what reason does this happen and how can i fix it
