Why is my microphone picking up my media audio and not my actual voice?

My microphone is picking up audio from any sort of media like spotify, game audio, youtube, discord calls, literally any audio you could play from a pc, and not my voice or any input to the actual mic. I’m using a Steelseries arctis 9x headset that i’ve had to plug in to use due to my motherboard not having bluetooth and i don’t want the delayed audio from a bluetooth adapter. any help available?
