Why is my keyboard not working and how do I fix it?

My surface pro keyboard is not working. I’ve tried pressing the Caps and Fn buttons and they won’t turn on. The laptop acknowledges when the keyboard is connected or disconnected to the laptop but it cannot type or use the mouse pad. The surface slim pen also is not charge from the keyboard like it should. Does this mean my keyboard is fully not working and do I need to get a new one or how should I fix it because it was working fine 3 days ago.
