Why has Win 11 started unticking "Connect automatically" and dropping the connection?

Have checked Settings>WiFi>Manage connections several times and the box is ticked but it keeps disconnecting every few minutes and the "Connect automatically" box is unticked (even though still ticked in settings). I then tick box and it connects --- only to drop connection again a few minutes later. Absolutely infuriating, especially as two other PC's (one Surface Book Win 10 and one Dell desktop running Ubuntu) connect rock solid to same WiFi.
