Why has my audio stopped working after a windows update Jan. 2025?

Audio stopped working after an update in Jan 2025. Drivers are up to date and I've restarted the audio service and rebooted many times with no luck. I did finally get the red x to go away on the taskbar and output devices are now able to be seen, but there is still no sound. I tried rolling back the drivers to older drivers and still no luck. I've tried the troubleshooter multiple times and it isn't able to fix the problem. This morning I can't even get the troubleshooter to get past the point of "automatically updating the drivers".
