Why has File Explorer begome unresponsive and how do I fix it?

My File Explorer has suddenly become very unresponsive, taking several minutes to open fully while displaying the Message "Working On It." Windows update KB5046617 was installed two days ago, about when the File Explorer problem started. So I went to Windows Update in Settings and uninstalled it. Did not solve the problem and that update again appears on my list of installed updates. What else can I do to restore the performance of File Explorer?
