Why don't I see unread email icon on task bar?

I've checked settings both on the computer and in the Outlook email settings. The key thing I seem to be missing is in the computer setting under taskbar behaviors mine says "show badges on taskbar apps" not "show badges (unread message counter) on taskbar apps"
