The file explorer has added a new virtual folder "Desktop" that is different from the "Desktop" folder that mimics the actual desktop. Apparently, this is the root of something called the "Shell Namespace" (whatever that is.) I've seen some discussion about this that seems to lead to the suggestion that it can be turned off by deselecting the "Show all folders option." That is a possible workaround but doesn't really address the question of what Microsoft is intending here.
