I will create a file from my computer (which let's say is assigned the name "USERS/person1") and save it to my company's shared drive. Let's say that other people with access to the shared drive may open the file from a different computer, make and save changes to the file using their computer, and even move the file to a different location within the same shared drive. When I go back into the file's properties, under "Details", sometimes the "Owner" is still listed as "USERS/person1" and sometimes it has changed to someone else, such as "USERS/person2".

I want to be able to search all of the files that I have created by displaying the "Owner" category as a column in a windows browser box and sorting so that all of USERS/person1's files will show up together. I cannot be sure that I am looking at a complete list for USERS/person1 if there is a process that is re-assigning the owner without my knowledge. I experimented by opening a file that I know I created originally (which now showed "USERS/person2" as the "Owner") and saving a change to it. The owner name did not change from USERS/person2. I also know that USERS/person2 did not manually go in and change file permissions for that particular file to assign himself as the "Owner". I believe it is a certain process that users are performing which, unbeknownst to us, changes the ownership of the file. So---- What causes a change in who is assigned as the "Owner" in file properties?
