Why does my microphone port not get picked up on my PC?

I have been trying to connect a microphone to my computer, however it does only recognises the first picture’s microphone port (secondary?). This doesn’t act as a microphone at all when I plug the green wire into it, but that’s a problem for another day.The point is, the second picture’s port comes along with all the other basic USB ports, so I gather that this is the main microphone port. Yet, my computer doesn’t react at all when I plug the microphone’s jack into this one.I can’t perform any troubleshooting tasks because no matter what I do, this port isn’t recognised as any input device on
