Why does my computer recognize my microphone as a headphone and how do I correct this?

So, I have a microphone that connects to the headphone/mic jack that is being recognized as a pair of headphones. For clarification, this is a mic only, not a headset and mic. I've tried going to privacy and security. I've checked the Realtek audio console, however, it doesn't give me the option to change the type from headphone to mic. So I'm completely lost.
