Why does Microsoft assume that everyone can afford buying a new PC now that everything is so expensive?

Why does Microsoft assume that everyone can afford buying a new PC now that everything is so expensive? Are they going to offer a discount? They keep advertising purchasing a new PC as if we are living in pre-COVID years and everything is affordable. I'd rather switch to another operating system.
