Why does it show that i have no antivirus even though I had originally had one?

When I had first gotten my PC there was an antivirus installed, but a few weeks ago when I opened it up after receiving a notification about it, it showed that i no longer had an Anti-Virus on my pc. Now I am getting spam notifications about having malware installed and I don't know what to do. Any and all help is appreciated.
