Why did the December Windows update make my PC go from perfectly functional to sounding like a jet engine and redlining my processor constantly?

My main issue is when I use my DAW, Ableton Live 12. Prior to the big December update, I could load projects with countless plugins and have little to no latency.Since the update, I not only have untenable latency, I get awful dropouts, pops, clicks, the whole 9.All three of my hard drives have copious amounts of space, all drivers are updated, as is my BIOS. I know MS will deny this til they're blue in the face, but it seems only reasonable that they would start phasing out older chips via planned obsolescence in these updates.My chip is an old one, an i5 4590 from 2015.
