Why did Microsoft take away our freedom to locate the taskbar to suit our needs and tastes?

In response to your excuse that allowing your customers to move their taskbars is too expensive and difficult: I say since when? Since Windows 95 we have had the freedom to move the taskbar to suit our needs and tastes. Having the taskbar on top has always made my Windows experience easier and more enjoyable by allowing the taskbar and its functions to be located directly above my open programs menu bars and browsing tabs instead of having to drag the cursor to the bottom of the screen every time I need to access the taskbar.
