Why can't I update from my 86 bit Windows 7 computer to 64 bit Windows 7?

Why can't I update from my 32bit Windows 7 computer to 64 bit Windows 7? or 64 bit window 8 ????? My computer is only on Windows 7. pls help me to fix it
