why can't i run games unless plugged in?

a couple of weeks ago I accidentally installed a virus on my computer but it was removed. but after that my computer had 2 sudden shutdowns due to high temprature. After that, it seems that any game i try to run can't even use low settings without the FPS going below 20. but if I plug it in, it runs fine even on high settings. This happened ever since the virus removal. I have tried changing graphic, power, and even cpu settings for NVIDIA, AMD, and armour crate but it seems to continue. could this be the result of the virus removal or is it something else? mind you again that I have tried to
