Why can't I receive the verification code for my microsoft account on the log in page of my windows computer?

I have a windows computer and cannot receive the code to log in for my microsoft account. The verification is mandatory and is the only method to log in. My laptop is stuck in the log in page. Although I tried restarting my laptop and changing the wifi, I still can not receive the code. Without it, I can not access my windows laptop.
