Why cant i install windows 10 64 bit?

I have a laptop that previously ran windwos 7 (i believe it was 64 bit as the laptop has 8gb ram in it) i tried downloading windows 10 64 bit but its just keeps reeboting and when i tried upgrading from 32 bit it said its not compatible with this laptop. The processzor is a i7 2670qm In the system information its says 32 bit operating system x64 based processzor. is there anything i can do or is this particular processzor just not compatible with 64 bit windows 10?
