Why are there 100's of unsuccessful attempts to log onto my email worldwide?

In Microsoft Privacy & Security 'My Recent Activity' shows 100's of "unsuccessful attempts" to login to my email address from all over the world ~ Ukraine, Bosnia, France and many, many more. Microsoft said not to worry because the attempts were unsuccessful so there's no need to change my password. If they say Don't Worry, I guess I won't. But I am concerned, to say the least. Why is this happening and is this fairly normal?HP ENVY x360 LaptopWindows11
