When using the Japanese IME, what's the difference between Alt+Backquote and Shift+Caps lock?

I've been racking my brain around this one and ran multiple tests with it, and I can't figure it out.The only thing I changed in the IME settings (as far as I remember) was activating direct kana input because I'm using an English keyboard with Japanese characters on it.I ran multiple tests trying to figure out if there was any difference, both with direct kana input on and off, and couldn't notice anything: they both simply switch between Japanese and Latin characters.What am I missing?
