When migrating mail into Outlook (client) from Windows Mail/Live Mail, do 'originals' stay with the old program?

In an attempt to recover old emails in Windows Live Mail, files that were 'corrupted' during a Windows Update, I've discovered that Outlook can easily open the WLM .eml files, although WLM no longer can. (It's as if the headers, or whatever, that make up the WLM list of Inbox messages don't link to the .eml files where the actual messages are stored.) Thus I was going to try importing the .eml files into Outlook, where they would become .pst files, hopefully re-creating new message Inbox listings there. But I'd like to know if the files in WLM will be physically moved or deleted, or whether
