When I open my file in Word, my styles are applied intermittently

Yesterday, before my computer updated, I created a file with specific paragraph and font styles. I forwarded it to my boss, and she opened it on her computer. The styles were there in the document, but not functioning correctly. Some fonts were showing up in the document incorrectly (as other fonts), though when you tried to modify them in the styles bar they were correct. I saved the document as a template and sent it back to her. The first time it opened correctly. The second time she opened it, it reverted to the incorrect version.
