When I open a game all audio cuts out. Any ideas on how to fix this?

All of my audio cuts out when I open certain games. It also happens when I right click the volume symbol on the taskbar, then click recording. I have tried updating drivers and many other troubleshooting methods that I can't remember. Any help?
