When I click on text (even if it is non-editable) the insertion point starts blinking. How do I fix this?

When I click on any text an insertion point (the blinking line that shows where the text is going to be placed when typing) pops up, even though the text is uneditable. I want to get rid of this because it is annoying and stops me from using arrow keys as a scrolling method.
