What is Windows Default.wav?

I've been deeply troubled in attempting to decipher the purpose of this audio file. I assumed it would have been mapped to the "Default Beep" eventMost system sounds have just been replaced with Windows Background.wav and Windows Foreground.wav by 11 so I booted up a W7 VM to see what the legacy mapping was, and to my surprise I found the "Default Beep" sound, which I expected to be the home of Windows Default.wav, was actually mapped to...
