What happened to my search function?

I have a humongous folder of 61,000 photo files that I need to constantly search to be sure I'm not duplicating anything. Up until tonight it has performed this task. But not any longer. It goes from A to FR alphabetically and then produces no results. Can someone provide guidance on what's going on and how best to handle it? Thank you.
