I've tried to update to Windows 20H2 but every attempt has been unsuccesful, so at this moment I just want to stop it from attempting an update every night and morning (It has already managed to disrupt one of my classes). I spoke to someone on microsoft support, they wold me that there was a section called windows update under system and security in the control panel, but I can't find "Windows update" there. I've looked through what I can, but I can't really find anything that indicates a turn of automatic update button..

I am on the windows 10 "2004" version. And my Laptop was bought this year.

In a perfect world I wouldn't need to stop the updates, does windows still put out new security updates frequently, or can i feel "safe" about not updating my laptop for a while?

Onto my second quesiton, I do not understand why I can't just update it, there doesn't seem to be any issue with the manufacturer or other people who have my laptop.

I've tried the following in order to fix the update

- Troubleshoot windows update

- Result: Tropubleshoot didn't even let me run it because

- Run the system file checker:

- Result: Couldn't run system file checker, it said that I had to restart the laptop, I tried, but I kept getting the message to restart.. So I gave up on that and moved on

- Run DISM

- Result: It performed its task, but the update was still unsuccessful

- Resetting windows update components:

- Result: It performed its task, but the update was still unsuccessful

- Download windows update manually

- Result: 2x Unsuccessful

On both occasions when I downloaded windows update manually, I got this error

ext

I have a NVMe SSd installed into the motherboard of my laptop, but nothing plugged in via the Thunderbolt, so I don't know why I got this error...

Either way, I waited until today, and I saw that windows has released the version to resolve this issue, the code/serial/name of the update is KB458653, I downloaded it, tried to install it and it was also unsuccessful (The person in customer support said the 20H2 update is for "programmers", which I'm fine with, but then I don't get why it is forced upon me to download it...

If there is something I wasn't clear about then please let me know, would appreciate some explanation and any help I can get (By now, windows update has already installed 20H2 and is getting ready for another failed install)
