VISUAL STUDIO CODE not working

[Windows 10]

I use VISUAL STUDIO CODE as my Python IDE. Now, when I click on the TERMINAL button (on the top toolbar) to request a NEW terminal screen, VSC freezes, (perhaps it cannot find the TERMINAL program?) After 10 seconds, an error message is issued requesting that I restart VSC or shut it down. It used to work without a problem but now I cannot run any code. I reinstalled VSC and the same problem persists.Thanks in advance to all who reply.Dan
