I was having problems with "svchost.exe" using more than 50% of CPU Cycles after installing AVG Free.
AVG invited me to a "Remote Assist" session and proceeded to delete files and folders from location: "Admin/AppData/Local/Temp" this location comprised in excess of 10,750 items, 7.39GB and I was instructed to delete all!
This took five and a half hours during which time I was constantly informed that: "Deleting this shared file will result in the folder no longer being shared." a couple of times, I was warned that: "This Folder is a system folder and deleting it may stop other Windows components from working" and so I did not remove those folders.
Once complete, I had to re-boot and surprisingly, all appeared to work OK.
When I shut down the PC at 01:00am on April 14th, there was a "Windows Updates" notification in the Task Bar, it had been there all evening, but showed "0% Downloaded".
Booting the machine today, I was greeted with: "Windows is installing updates step 3 of 3 0% complete" once my desktop appeared, there was a message about KB3139398 installed 10/03/2016 advising it was installed successfully and required a re-boot! ...strange, I tried to mentally calculate how many re-boots I had done in the intervening 5 weeks!!
I then noticed there were three updates which were dated 14th and 15th of April, two of which were listed as cancelled (not by me) and one listed as failed!
I then ran "FixIt" which took more than half an hour and reported:-
After a reboot, I opened Windows Update only to find the dreaded Red shield with a white "X"and
"Last Update - Never"
"Updates installed - Never"I remain totally unable to connect with the Update Server.
HELP!
