Vista Update stuck on Preparing to Install

Windows Vista Ultimate, Intel quad core qx6800, dual gefore 8800gtx cards,
onboard audio, asus extreme striker mobo.

Just returned from summer trip, when I use windows update it has no problems
donwloading the updates, but then gets stuck at Preparing to Install. It
doesn't seem to actually install anything, Preparing to Install just stays
there.

No issues before I left for summer. Recently swapped out soundblaster card
for onboard audio card.

Any suggestions? Its really frustrating
 
A quick update. Installing the updates one by one or in small groups seemed
to fix this problem. I did get an error code 80070103 on an nvidia update so
decided not to install that driver. Don't know if that was the problem.
Anyway, try instaling the updates one by one (I had a bunch since i haven't
updated in a while)
