HELP. my computer is an absolute mess. it takes forever to start up. i

have media center but can't listen to music or watch videos because the

computer is so slow that the sound skips. i ran superantispyware and avg and

that did not help one bit. i removed norton prior to installing avg and

removed windows defender (was told windows defender is spyware?) it seems as

though it was after playing a game on facebook that my computer slowed down

significantly.

when i open task manager i end up with 5 little green boxes in the bottom

right hand corner of computer screen. superantispyware icons showed up 4

times at the bottom right hand corner, i guess they are opening multiple

times?.

i checked msconfig and it doesn't appear as though i have anything unusual

running at start up.

could installing itunes and then removing it and then reinstalling it cause

problems? I followed instructions that i found online, used windows cleanup,

i think that was what it was called, and removed all the necessary components

(Bonjour, etc.)

I do my banking online and installed a program called Rapport console, it is

supposed to help so that key strokes can't be logged? I have disabled it to

see if that made a difference (possible conflict with firewall )and it did

not. i'm using avg for antivirus and windows firewall.

Defender is not Spyware

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/defender/default.mspx

However it can conflict with your current AV

There are MANY Number of things that can slow your PC

How many APS you are running

If you are running More than 1 AV

And the spyware Loading Multiple times doesn't sound good?

Open up Task Manager and how much memory are you using

VS how much Memory do you have?

It could be as simple as you don't have enough Memory

You, definitely want to uninstall that Superantispyware if you can.

Open Task Manager>select Processes. In the column labeled CPU note down the

processes that are

10 and higher. System Idle should be a high number so that's normal.

Post them back here with the exact spelling of the processes and their

corresponding numerical values.

the two methods I like

to use and advise for

issues involving some

performance issues are:

1) test performance is

safe mode then

2) execute a clean boot.

Lots of suggestions to check Task Manager, what do you see, copy up

some numbers, etc. There is way too much guessing, assumptions,

possibility of typos, back and forth, more questions, so why not post

a screen shot of your TM and there will be no guessing (no guessing

about your Task Manager anyway).

You can't upload a screenshot here, but you can upload it elsewhere

and we can see it.

Right click the Taskbar, choose Task Manager and select the Processes

tab.

Click View, Select Columns, check the box that says: Virtual Memory

Size. Expand the

width of the Task Manager box so you can see all the columns and

processes.

Double click a column heading in TM to sort by the column. For

example,

sort Task Manager by the CPU column.

Take a screenshot of what you see and upload the screenshot to one of

several

free picture hosting WWW sites.

When you are done, we will be able to see what you are seeing.

To create and post a screenshot:

Press the Print Scrn button to copy your entire screen to the Windows

clipboard.

Press Alt Print Scrn to copy just the active window to the Windows

clipboard.

Open MS Paint:

Start, Program Accessories, Paint

When Paint opens, press CTRL-V to paste the clipboard, save the new

Paint file

to your desktop or someplace you can remember. JPG files take up less

hard

disk space than BMP files and just as readable.

Make as many screenshots as you need. Practice makes perfect. Be

careful your

screenshot does not contain any personal information. Practice

viewing your images

before you upload them to be sure they are okay.

Some sites (like bleepingcomputer) will let you attach a file directly

to your post.

If the site has some kind of attachment/upload function it is usually

easiest just to

use it.

If there is no such function then use a free third party image hosting

WWW site.

Create a free account on some free picture hosting web site. You can

always remove

your account later if you want. Here are some free image hosting

sites:

http://www.imageshack.us/

http://photobucket.com/

Using your free account, upload your screenshot(s) (the JPG or BMP

files) to the

site and it will return to you a URL web address (a link) for your new

image(s)

that you can paste in a message post, email, etc.

When you are done, what you post for others to use should look

something like this:

http://img163.imageshack.us/img163/6428/taskmanagerr.jpg

Post that URL web address back here in your response and we can click

on the

address and see your screenshot. Post as many as you need - the sites

are free.
