User OfficeClient.microsoft.com proxy authentication prompt

We are seeing some users getting prompted for proxy credentials when launching or using outlook 2016. the URL thats trying to be accessed is officeclient.microsoft.com. i am sure we could probably disable online access for outlook or allow the url on our proxy server. but i am trying to understand why this is happening in the first place.
