USB modem won't connect to windows fax and scan

I've tried many different ways to get this Conexant USB CX93010 modem to connect. The Device Manager says that it is working fine. It shows up in Windows Fax and Scan but I cannot select it because the choice is grayed out. Any suggestions would be helpful. When I push the SEND button it goes to the printer menu.
