USB Device has Special Characters in Serial Number

Hello! I have a weird issue, for security reasons we need to retrieve the serial number of a USB device when it's plugged in and put it on an allow list ( using get-pnpdevice -Class 'USB' | foreach-object {$_.InstanceID}). Most USB drives return a 6-10 digit numerical string, that's consistent across all devices. However some devices return an odd string with special characters, and it seems to be randomly generated from the Windows USB driver-pack.
