USB audio adapter works fine but then randomly disconnects

I bought a USB audio adapter for my laptop so I can hear audio through a pair of headphones and to also use the microphone. It works fine however a minute or two in the audio stops playing entirely, with any media content that was playing now buffering. However I can still see that the audio adapter is connected as it is flashing red.I tried unplugging and plugging the USB back into the port, it resumes working but the issue still persistsIs there a permanent solution to this problem?
