Upgrade to Windows 10 Pro

My laptop was upgraded to Windows 10 last year and the Anniversary update this year without any issues. Last week it stopped working and it is currently at Dell getting a new motherboard. They will supposedly wipe the drive and reinstall the original software (Windows 8 Pro) that it came with. How do I go about getting upgraded again without having to purchase a brand new (Windows 10 Pro) license? Microsoft basically said, "Free upgrade is over, just purchase a license."
