Hello,
I had Vista Ultimate on my computer, but i couldn't get it to work smoothly
so i got XP OEM version from Amazon. I erased the partition and formatted the
drive for a clean install of XP. Installed drivers and such what got it all
working. I had 102 updates in the Windows update, managed to install quite a
few of them but now everytime i try to install them either through auto
update or by visiting the update webpage all of them fail.
The same problem happens with IE7 whether i download it from the microsoft
site or try to install it through the auto update. It gets to the very end
about finializing the installation and then stops and says that the computer
needs to restart.
Any information would be great.

Besides this update thing i think everything else is running smoothly.

Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update, from Microsoft
Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you repair a Windows XP
installation:

NB: Also applies to clean installs, upgrade installs, and Recovery installs.

Required reading IMHO before installing IE7:

Ok the automatic update thing worked managed to get all the security updates
and what not. However i still can't install IE7 it just comes up with the
computer needs to restart so that the setup files can be deleted. I have
tried everything in the online help thing and nothing, tried looking into the
logs but i only have IE7_main.log and not the IE7 log that it says to check.
