KB929916
KB935807
KB905866
933928
KB935280
KB937077

I had auto update install 3 times at least with reboots. I've turned it off
waiting for a reply.

I'm frustrated so please let me vent:
In my 17 years of MS computing, going back to early MS-DOS, I never had a
total operating system crash that required a full reinstall on my new machine
until Vista.

Hi there try to dis-select KB935807 cause of that one no others can be
install we had exactlly the same problem but til now MS still not came out
with a solution / fix yet. and don't try to install KB935807 cause it'll kept
repeating out the update require again and again, its very annoying and its
keep rebooting. Try to search with "KB935807" within here you 'll see some
"fox" but for me it won't help so may be you can be lucky for it ^^ but for
now on just dis-select the KB935807 in order others can be installed.

Thanks Charlie. I was thinking of going through and deselecting each one
until I found the one or several causing the problem. I'll give your
suggestion a try. Seems odd that MS would keep putting out an update that
people are having problems with.

Charlie, I searched for "KB935807" in here like you mentioned and saw many
others having the same problem. I tried manually installing it but that
didn't work so I just deselected if from Vista's updater and selected it to
let me decide which updates to install. Weird how all 6 would not install
because of "KB935807".

Just thinking of all those computers sold this year with Vista, Auto Update
on, and most people not knowing anything even how to find a solution like
here.

Thanks. :-)
Beau

You 're welcome, I also waiting the new patch for it so at this moment I'm
still look around and wait for a fix for this KB and I found something below
from "itsvista.com" hope it'll work for you, I'll try later cause now was
12AM in Malaysia, hahaha, gtg ^^ good luck man!

Quota from Scott:"

So, MS released a new version, revision 1.1 today:
www.microsoft.com/technet/security/Bulletin/ms07-038.mspx

It did not work for me.

The manual installation did however. Check your 'installation history', and
if successful, just hide the update if it still appears.

For manual x32 install:
www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...46-6afa-4a30-833d-e058e000c821&displaylang=en

for x64:
www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...90-3ad7-42d5-8629-43c47ec450cb&displaylang=en

Hope this works for everyone."

May have solved this problem (thanks to TaurArian as well)
OK - go here and DOWNLOAD the update manually to your desktop.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...46-6afa-4a30-833d-e058e000c821&DisplayLang=en

Once downloaded - switch off ALL FIREWALL and ANTI VIRUS software.

Double Click MY COMPUTER

DOUBLE CLICK VISTA

FIND - SOFTWARE DISTRIBUTION - (there may be TWO one may be - SOFTWARE
DISTRIBUTION.OLD - if you find the OLD file - DELETE IT - ALL OF IT).

THEN open the SOFTWARE DISTRIBUTION folder and DELETE everything in it.

EMPTY IT FROM RECYCLE BIN.

Then DOUBLE CLICK the icon on DESKTOP to install KB935807 manually.

Once done - shut down and restart. It worked for me and I have NO mesages
telling me I still need to install this update.

Hope it works for you

DCJ before you install the manual download I believe you have to open up the
Windows folder, open the software distributions folder, delete the files in
the data store folder, click the back button and delete the files in the
download folder.
Microsoft recommends turning off the Windows update service prior to doing
this. To do this you open the administrative tools, go to services, find
Windows update and stop it. Then clear the files as noted above. then
install the manual download update.

Dear DJC, I had tried 3X and 3X repeated the step below:

1. Disable "Window Update" under services.
2. Rename "SoftwareDistribution" -> SDTemp12 (mean 12th time tried T_T).
3. Delete ALL in internet explorer.
4. Download manual installer in link from TaurArian [MS-MVP]
5. Delete ALL again in IE.
6. Double click and install the manual installer "Windows6.0-KB935807-x86".
7. Installing...
8. Request for restart in order the effect of the update.
9. So I clicked restart, system restart.
10. After boot on, windows is "Configuring Update".
11. After that it automatic reboot again.
12. After boot on, no more "Configuring Update", login to my system.
13, Kool, waited for 15 Min no complaint as before.
14, So I open window update again, saw that I never check for update, screen
in red.
15. Double check again for the "Installed Update".
16. It says KB935807 installed successful.
17. Check for update once more, bump!, it come up again...T_T.
18. So install again.... and again reboot and reboot...
19. So after serveral time I give up, now I right click "Hide Update" until
futher solution is coming up from MS.
20. So now my "Installed Update" had 1X success KB9350807 (Without
description Vista) and 2X failed KB935807 (With description Vista).

So its doen't work for me...T_T

Jamand, thanks for your information and help.
I followed your procedure but was wondering something.
I moved the contents of the SoftwareDistribution folder to an external drive
just to be safe. With manual install of the update and a reboot it rebuilt
the contents of the SoftwareDistribution folder but now I only see 7 of the 9
folders. Missing are WuRedir and PostRebootEventCache.
Are they necessary or will they also rebuild later? I could always move them
back from my external drive.
Thanks very much.
I don't mind admitting I was a little worried about messing up Vista with
this but it worked. :-)
Beau

UPDATE: Unfortunately this procedure did not work for me and Vista still
wants to install KB935807. I followed the directions exactly. I'm keeping
update off until MS gets things straightened out. :-(

Hi! Well guess what - it worked for me for TWO DAYS - no problems - DAY THREE
- back it came again trying to install this damn update - I have written to
Microsoft via email and got a reply from some so called 'EXPERT' - and guess
what - the reply contained information about XP not Vista. They didn't even
read the mail properly.

What hope have we got of resolving when they can't even read the content of
the mail.

Really sorry guys - thought we had sorted it - alas, we are in the hands of
the Microsoft minions to resolve it - don't hold your breath.

Jamand, I also just got an e-mail from MS giving detailed instructions on how
to fix this problem. I don't know if it works but I will post a new topic
here in a few minutes with a copy of it.

Has someone at Microsoft sorted this KB935807 update - will not install
problem now then - Mine seems to be OK for the moment - seemed to install
itself in the background this morning and is now reporting as install
successful.

I TAKE IT ALL BACK - still failing to recognise the install and still keeps
trying to upload this update.

Same here Jamand. I've been working with a MS tech support person and even
his complex procedures dont' fix it. I just told him I was burned out on it
and don't want to continue and that I thought MS needs to pull any corrupted
updates until they are fully tested. Several of my local friends with XP have
the same problems and have turned update off.

Me too - switched off update completely - so much for Microsofts claim that
it is the most secure Windows Operating system to date - so secure it doesn't
even let it's own updates work.
