Unresponsive parts of my screen

All of a sudden, I am not getting responses to left mouse clicks on browser tabs (all browsers), clicking on the upper lefthand X to close windows, and icons on the taskbar. The only way to get any of that to respond is to use my finger or my Surface pen on the touch screen. I am using a Surface Pro 7, and I've never had this problem before. It's happening with multiple mouses (mice?) and with the touchpad on my Surface Pro 7. Occasionally everything goes back to normal, but then very quickly stops acting normally and stops responding. Oh, and sometimes even touching the screen doesn't work. (
