Hi there

We recently migrated from windows 7 & office 2013. Now we are on windows 10 1809 and office 365 pro plus. We are running exchange 2016 on-premise.

Previously on office 2013, we had the outlook client set to cache mode 1 month. Many of our users have one or more shared mailboxes in addition to their personal mailboxes. This worked fine. The search behavior was such that if they searched any mailbox, it would search as far as the time period held by cache mode (1 month), then it would give them the option to expand the search with items from the server, because they'd be older than 1 month. It did this for both personal and shared mailboxes. We had no problem with this.

The problem we face now is that with the same cache mode settings applied to outlook 2016 (via group policy admx), we can do a mailbox search, and can expand the search on the personal mailbox ok, but it will not let us do this on shared mailboxes. We've tested putting people into online mode - this solves the search problem, but introduces a number of other problems, mainly performance related, so online mode is a no-go.

There is a GPO setting related to "Hybrid Search" which has not been configured for either 2013 or 2016. It sounds like this is what we want to work, but right now it seems it only works on personal mailboxes, not shared.

How do we get this working for shared mailboxes?

Thanks

Jon
