Unable to remove old version of Windows after system restore

I have a HP laptop that we have done a system restore on. After the restore, it is still giving me the option to go to the old version, although when I select the older version it just reboots. I've gone into storage and deleted the temp files. I've searched the drive for windows.old and have not found anything.
