I have a user who can't delete a file from his desktop and when I check the permissions on his profile, the file doesn't have an owner. When I try to set him or anyone else as the owner, including local admin, I get an Access Denied error.

The user is working on a laptop but the user profile is saved on a VM and cached locally on the laptop when the user logs on for the first time. The laptop then syncs back to the home profile server to save documents etc. I am logged onto the VM as local admin.

I have tried to push the permissions down from the top level but get the access denied error when it tries to apply permissions to that file. I have also tried to take ownership and delete the file via cmd as administrator but get access denied.

I can't install a 3rd party application onto this server but need to be able to set an owner so that the file can be deleted.

Can anyone help please?

Thanks,

Andy
