"turn on mono audio" Doesn't work. Headphones only playing audio out of one ear.

I have brand new AKG K371 Headphones, with a single male TRS cable plugging into a single female input on a 'Republic of Gamers' laptop. I am using Windows 10. I went to the Audio tab under Ease of Access, to turn on the "turn on mono audio" option, hoping that the audio would play fine. It only comes out of one ear. Under Sounds > Playback > Enhancements I have tried both disabled all enhancements and not. Under Sounds > Playback > Advanced, all my options say 2 channels, even though I just have one headphone jack on my laptop(?). I thought selecting "turn on mono audio" would
