Hi there

A not-very-techie friend asked me for some advice. She had a hotmail account and for some reason couldn't access it on her new iphone. She tried entering her password but was told it'd been changed when she hadn't. She tried as much as she understood how to do before asking me, all to no avail.

On her behalf and with her knowledge, I tried to reset her password. I offered my own email address as an alternative contact and with information from her, answered all the reset password questions (recently used email subject lines, email addresses to whom emails have been sent recently, name & date of birth, recent / previous passwords used, security questions. I've tried it 2 or 3 times and each time it came up saying "not enough info - cant reset".

Now I understand that it is good to take seriously any security breach, but when an individual tries EVERY thing that they can remember to answer all the questions required to set up / reset their email password and it fails, then that's worrying. Also worrying was the fact that during one of the rest attempts, a security question was asked that my friend had NO IDEA about...prompting me to think has this account been compromised?

What is the best way for her to proceed? We've tried everything with all the information she has. Short of telling her to get another email account I don't know what to suggest.
