Tried to wipe computer by reinstalling Windows: now it won't boot up properly at all.

I have a very old Windows 7 Asus that I'm trying to get rid of, so wanted to wipe the data first. Had read that I could do this by reinstalling Windows from a CD, so, after backing up all my files, I reinstalled Windows 7 from a CD. It told me it couldn't complete the job, but now I can't restart it properly. When I start the computer I get a 'Startup Repair' message followd by a message telling me 'Windows cannot repair this computer automatically' and giving me the option to click either 'Finish' or 'Cancel'. 'Finish' causes the computer to switch off, and 'Cancel' takes it through the same
