Tracking my stolen device

My brand new surface pro home computer with stolen about a week after I purchased it I went to find my device from my Android phone and there was an update done after it already had been stolen but when I went to lock the device it told me that it hadn't been turned on in 30 days so there was no way to track it or lock it but there was a tracking option I'm just a little bit confused about how to set that into motion there's any one that can help me I would appreciate it
