TOUCHPAD MISSING FROM DEVICE MANAGER

My tocuhpad suddenly disappeared from device manager. MOUSE only works when external MOUSE is plugged in. When I unplug the mouse, "MICE AND OTHER POINTING DEVICES" item on device manager disappears. tried restarting laptop and system restore but to no avail. What can I do
