Touch screen numeric keypad/keyboard stopped working after Win 11 22H2 update

My HP Elite x2 G8 tablet just got updated to Windows 11 22H2 (22621.819) via the normal Windows Update channel and now the touch-screen numeric keypad/keyboard (for entering my account PIN on boot-up), works erratically or not at all. It usually just hangs after I enter the first 2 or 3 digits. I have to call up the on-screen keyboard via the Accessibility icon or use a hardware keyboard. The issue doesn't happen with 21H2. I tried a completely fresh install of 22H2 with just latest updates and default settings but the problem persists. My options are either to live with it or roll back to
